L'Esprit Alberty
Our History
This story is, above all, the story of a family: few establishments in the culinary world can boast a history spanning three generations. Each of them has sought and found its own way to be both faithful and innovative. To stay true to the spirit of the era without compromising what has made this company unique.
It was in 1962 that Gabrielle Bernard, the grandmother, purchased this magnificent historic stone building to offer comfortable accommodations and hearty, delicious meals. Michel Bernard, the son of the house, who grew up alongside his mother, is continuing his hospitality studies at “Ceria” in Brussels, which will allow him to eventually take over the family restaurant’s kitchen—alongside Marie-Claire, whom he has just met—in what could be described as a passing of the torch, offering cuisine that reflects his own style…..
Refined and delicious! And it was a hit, with the famous duck à l’orange, young guinea fowl with cherries, and the fabulous “Norwegian” omelet…. Families get together for a weekend in the countryside or to celebrate a special occasion…
A third generation is settling in…
In 1999, Nicolas Alberty—a graduate of the Namur Hotel School who had gained experience at renowned establishments such as Georges Blanc’s restaurant in Vonnas—took over the kitchen following the sudden death of Michel Bernard. In this way, he carries on a culinary tradition that will evolve over time, gradually introducing loyal customers to refined cuisine.Il perpétue ainsi un art culinaire qui évoluera avec le temps pour sensibiliser au fur et à mesure les clients fidèles pour une cuisine raffinée. To this end, he was brilliantly assisted by his future wife, Emmanuelle Bernard, the daughter of the family…
In 2001, they took over the family business and set out to develop their own unique style by putting their own stamp on it.
In July 2007, they opened Le Barathym, a cozy inn serving simple, flavorful cuisine, right in the heart of the same village…. For Nicolas Alberty, cooking begins with the producer. Once you've chosen a high-quality product, the magic can begin.
Welcome home—where you can savor the joy of the moment!
